Question #1:

What are the best ELECTRIC cooking ranges for the $500-800 price range? Brands and models from EXPERIENCE?

I just bought a foreclosed townhouse and need to purchase a new range since the one there currently is cracked inside and not usable. I do not want to spend more than $800 INCLUDING delivery. I only have the option of electric and it needs to be the standard 30" size. I have been looking at Maytag, Frigidaire, Whirlpool and GE. Has anybody had either a really good or really bad experience with any of these brands? I want something with an accurate oven temp, FAIRLY easy to clean/maintain and in stainless steel. Thanks!

Question #3:

What's better for a gas range, stainless steel or white enamel with grey enamel top?

I'm looking to replace an electric range with a gas one, and have narrowed the selection down to the GE Profile Dual Fuel freestanding gas range. Should I get stainless steel or white enamel?
I've read that stainless steel is hard to clean and scratches easily. A white enamel stove even with a grey top where the burners are, just seeems like a cleaning nightmare. What would you buy?

Question #4:

Need help picking stove and dishwasher!?

I'm going to be moving into my house approximately 10 weeks from now and needed to buy all new appliances. I walked into my local neighborhood appliance store, and they sold me on a few items I wasn't considering before. I come home and google them and wasn't happy with what I found.

I ended up with a GE Cafe Dual Fuel Range and dishwasher. I'm not a big baker, but I love roasting meats till they become brown. So i'm not really sure whether an electric stove or a gas stove is better. I can still change it, I just need it to be free standing. The idea of the griddle is nice, but I didn't know that it only had medium and low settings! I also hear it scratches easy. Any suggestions for the kind of range I can get that'll give me a powerful gas cooktop, nice even cooking in the oven, something that can roast my chicken and meats and possibly broil them nice, and something with professional looks (not really thaaat importnant, but nice to have)

In terms of the dishwasher, I want something nice since i'm already spending the money on it, and what I found about this GE one is that people say they have to run the cycle a few times to get em clean. Preferably one with hidden controls is a plus.

Any ideas or suggestions? Let me know!

Question #5:

Remodeling kitchen and is it a faux pas to?

Have a gas cooktop on top of an electric wall oven. Should I go this route which looks nicer or just put in another gas range? I'm looking at the GE Cafe Series.

Question #6:

How come stocks were a few bucks in the 80's and are in the 30+ range now?

I constantly hear stories about, "I bought and held... (Exxon) for example, and made a huge profit." A lot of stocks I look at through the 80's and 90's were in the few dollars range. General Electric, which was from what I understand a big company back then, was in the dollar two dollar range in the early 80's. What happened that made most of these companies like Walmart, GE, EXXON, Microsoft, etc... you know the type... turn into $30 range+ stocks of today? I can't imagine that buying into $50 stocks today will turn into $150 stocks twenty years from now.

Question #7:

How can I level my GE electric range?

The adjusting screws call for channel locks to turn them but I don't have any. Tried a pipe wrench and tried pliers with no luck. Is there something else I could try that might work?
Thanks in advance.

Question #8:

Does anyone else have a problem baking in their KitchAid oven?

We recently purchased a new electric KitchenAid range (KESS908SPS). I love the look of it, the flat cook-top and electronic controls. The problem that I'm having is that it doesn't seem to bake evenly. Even when I bake on a stone, cookies seem to be overcooked on the bottom. I did not have this problem with my previous 13year old GE range. Even when I use the convection I still have the same problem. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, and advise or tips?

Question #9:

who makes a better electric (coil) Range GE or Frigidaire. They both have the same features.?

Question #10:

who makes electric 27 inch wide drop in ranges?

looking for a new electric drop in range that is 27 inches wide other than GE. White preferred

Question #11:

My GE electric oven takes between 15 and 20 minutes to preheat.?

It may just be me, but my oven takes what seems like forever to preheat. Could there be something wrong with it and do I just need to be patient? When I first got the range about 2 years ago I remember turning down the internal temperature because everything was burning {owners manual instructed on doing this}. Could this have anything to do with it?

Question #12:

Why is my GE oven self cleaning light blinking?

I have an older free standing electric range. When I turn on the oven, the self cleaning light blinks and the oven will not turn on. I can put it on self cleaning and it will heat up on the top element only. Any idea why the self cleaning light would blink when oven is on just its normal temperature settings? The top burners work just fine. This just started today....Thanks.

Question #13:

Why does my electric range/oven stay warm when it is turned off?

I have a GE electric free standing range. There is always heat coming from the oven even when it has been turned off for awhile or overnight. Is this a fire hazard? and what is causing this?

Question #14:

Do you prefer a gas or electric stove/range?

Looking into replacing my Stove/range. Its an 87 GE electric stove/oven. I have a hook-up for both. I've always had electric in every place I have lived thus far. I'm thinking of buying a gas one this time.

Which is really better?

Question #15:

Gas oven only heats once, and takes 20 minutes?

I picked up a newer, but used GE Profile gas range.

It takes about 20 - 25 mins to get to 450, which is much longer then my old electric one, then it doesn't seem to hold that temp.

If I wait 10 mins after it reaching temprature it'll show 450 , but if I turn it off, and back on again at 450, it'll show the current temp at like 420, then it'll slowly climb and just stay at 450 again.

If it's up to temp, and I just leave the door open, the display temp doesn't drop until I shut it off, then back on again.

Any Ideas?

Question #16:

Electric range coils sparking and popping... blew hole in pan!?

I have a GE electric range (stove top and oven combined in one) and over the last month, I have lost 3 burners. The coil burners have randomly and one at a time (while I am cooking on them) made a loud pop, and sparks flew from it. I immediately turn it off. The last time it arched so bad it blew a hole clear through my pan!!! This has happened with 3 of the 4 burners and I am very concerned about a fire, but can't afford a new range. Is it safe to just replace the coils? I replaced the large coil last year, and it is the only one working now, but I am afraid it will go out too and possibly start a fire. Is this how the coils go out, or could it be a more serious problem? Any advice other than replacing the range?

Question #17:

Hotpoint/GE dryer takes forever to dry clothes.?

This is an older style ge electric dryer model: DLB2650BALWH. Tested thermostats with ohmeter and they show continuity. Tested outlet and am getting 120v and 240v in the correct places. I'm not familair with how to troubleshoot the elements. I used a meat thermometer to test the exhaust temperature... it will heat up to about 100-110 deg. then cool down to 80-90 degrees and cycle back and forth... never going over 110 degrees (usually only to 100). I think it is supposed to stay in a much higher range. Could a faulty element cause this? I am going to test the resistance on the three element studs now.
Air flow looks good, i have it disconnected to vent and it is a strong blow coming out of unit.

I tested the heating element, there are 3 studs. Online resources say i should see 8-12 ohms. when testing the element. I went from stud 1 to stud 2 and got 10 ohms. stud 1 to stud 3 10 ohms. stud 2 to stud 3 resulted 0-1 ohms (or continuity i guess... it was low). Is that the problem? Should i get 8-12 ohms between studs 1-2, 1-3, and 2-3? because 2-3 is not giving any (or barely) any resistance.

Temp stuck on delicate setting? How can i troubleshoot that? That makes sense. Cause I couldn't understand why it would cycle off and on at that low temp IF the problem was with the element. Wouldnt it just maintain a lower than normal temperature and never cool down? Something is making it cut off at 100-110 degrees. You may be right.

Is my technique okay on testing the elements (going from stud to stud), and is that proper readings on stud 2-3? if so, it may be like u said. th
@ rich - well, i just replaced my parents motor on a similar model for $30... saved them from paying $350 for a new one. trying to do the same here if i can. if it is the heating element, i am sure i can find a replacement. if it is something more obscure, then i might have to buy another. just seeing if i can pin down the problem.

Question #18:

Will General Electric subsidaries NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC ever report anything negative about Obama?

General Electric Corporation owns a wide variety of businesses. The company produces -- take a deep breath -- aircraft engines, locomotives and other transportation equipment, kitchen and laundry appliances, lighting, electric distribution and control equipment, generators and turbines, and medical imaging equipment. GE is also one of the preeminent financial services companies in the US. General Electric Capital, comprising commercial finance, consumer finance, aircraft leasing, real estate, and energy financial services, is its largest segment. Other operations include the NBC television network.

One of General Electric's largest divisions, GE Energy serves utility, industrial, and governmental customers worldwide, supplying products such as compressors, wind turbines, generators, and nuclear reactors. It also provides equipment that supports oil and gas distribution, and services ranging from consulting and field engineering to environmental monitoring and product lifecycle management.

The General Electric CEO is openly a Obama supporter and he wants cap and trade to pass. Why? Not because it is good for the environment, but it is good for General Electric's bottom line.

So will these networks ever report anything controversial about Obama?

Question #19:

Ge electric oven range stopped working?

we have old model of GE oven and some water went in to drip pan and may be inside the oven and I think it made some noise like something was blown and it stopped working?
What could be it due to?
and do u think turning of circuit breaker off and than on will solve the problem?
what should we do to fix it?
Do u think we might have blown the internal fuse? as this is old purely electric oven range and its highly likely to have internal fuse what do u think?
Thanks to all who ever answered but we tried circuit breaker off and on again and it worked.

Question #20:

Unknown GE stove; do you know how to work it?

We bought a home with an old (1960s maybe?) GE range. It has 2 small and 2 large electric burners with button controls. Each has logical buttons (Off-High) save the front, large burner. This one has "Off, 2-inch, 4-inch, 6-inch, and Grill" buttons along with a sort of depressable knob in the center with a plastic core.

Despite our best efforts we've been unable to get this burner to heat. Many a search has yielded nothing (and the previous owner's cleanliness resulted in a "cleaned" tag obscuring the model number). Anyone have any idea what range this is and/or how it works?
