Question #2:

Is my NEW oven suppose to take 24 min to preheat to 45*?

I bought a Kenmore electric freestanding range and it takes it 24 min to preheat. That seems to long. My last stove( wich was less than 4 years old) took 6 min.
I called sears and told the lady that I thought it was defective and she tried to tell me that was normal on new ovens because it is using less energy.
Wich I think is bull!!!!!
Who wants to wait that long to start cooking there food?
So just wondering if this is REALY normal for it to take that long?

Question #3:

What's better for a gas range, stainless steel or white enamel with grey enamel top?

I'm looking to replace an electric range with a gas one, and have narrowed the selection down to the GE Profile Dual Fuel freestanding gas range. Should I get stainless steel or white enamel?
I've read that stainless steel is hard to clean and scratches easily. A white enamel stove even with a grey top where the burners are, just seeems like a cleaning nightmare. What would you buy?

Question #4:

What am I in for in converting a drop-in range to a freestanding or slide-in?

I have what I believe to be a drop-in electric range now, a Whirlpool model RS610PXK0. I am thinking about converting it to a freestanding, provided a freestanding will fit into the space between the counter tops, or a slide-in. This is mainly because the price of drop-ins is significantly higher than freestanding, perhaps due to popularity. Currently there is an electric baseboard heater below the range, which is no longer in use as I have converted to central heat. I suppose that will have to be ripped out. The Formica counter top will need to be cut, if I need to get all the way back to the wall with the new range. I am trying to figure out if there are any hidden gotchas I might run into before I go out and buy a new range. I will certainly do the measurements of the new unit to be sure it will fit in the space provided before I buy.

Question #5:

How do I put back the door on my Kenmore electric cooker?

Black, freestanding range, electric, we took the door apart to clean it in between the glass and now we can't put it back - any ideas/tricks on how to put it back?

Question #6:

Would you buy a smoothtop range again?

In the market for a new electric range. While the smoothtops look much nicer than coil burners, I have read that they (1) must be cleaned with a special cleaner (EVERY time?) (2) stain easily (3) chip easily (4) must have flat (HOW flat?) cookware, etc. I've read reviews from people who say they would never buy another. I was GOING to go the coil route to begin with (bad memory--afraid I'll leave something on it while hot and not realize it--already did once with my coil burners), but most are very ugly. Also, though I have SEARCHED, I cannot find ANY range that gets consistently good USER reviews (Consumer Reports and users apparently do not agree.) I really don't want to spend more than $1,000 at most. So basically, my questions are (1) Would you buy another smoothtop? (2) Comments re: the 4 numbered comments at beginning of this? (3) Does anybody have a freestanding electric range (smoothtop or coil) that they've had more than a few months (or better, a year or more) that they really like and would recommend? (Lots of questions--don't feel you must answer them all unless you want to!) Thanks SO much!

Question #8:

Does LG Electronics 30 In. Freestanding Electric Range have a warranty?

My parents bought an electric stove which broke. (It was an accident.) They bought it from Home Depot about 5 months ago. We were wondering if Home Depot supplies a warranty with this range.

Also there is an extended service plan?

OK so they did come and install it and it was ready to go. I shall tell my parents that we are in the green :D
The glass shattered when I tapped the side of the metal frame, BARELY, with a pan. It is supposed tempered glass but I heard that it should be tougher than that.
So they have the metal frame all around the door's glass, I tapped the left metal part and the whole entire thing shattered. It should be covered because I hear that if you don't temper glass right, it is more likely to shatter easier.

I think we were set up. Or they didn't do it right and called it good.

Question #9:

experiences with these electric ranges?

Opinions on these freestanding electric ranges, Americana (sold by Home Depot), Estate(Whirlpool), Hotpoint (GE), and Frigidaire

Question #10:

Question #11:

Should I Replacing electric stove or have it repaired?

I have a freestanding electric range that is only two years old. The other night I was turning the oven on and it started to go wacky. The electrical wires in the back where crackling and then all the sudden there was a flame of fire behind the stove and I turned it off. Now the over will not work but the burners work. What does this cost to fix? I don't want to spend a lot then be told I need a new one. Thanks for any help.
The warranty expired after a year. I called them and they said there was no recalls.

Question #12:

Gas or electric?

We need to buy a new freestanding range. Our water heater and our furnace is natural gas. With the economy like it is, which would be cheaper, an electric oven or a gas one?
When I say cheaper, I mean the cheaper bill every month, not the price of the range.
I am in Oklahoma

Question #13:

would it be expensive to move my range to the end of my counters rather than in the center?

it is an electric freestanding also going to add a microwave hood

Question #14:

My electric oven turns itself on...easy fix or time to buy a new one?

I have a freestanding electric range/oven, the brand is Hotpoint. It's several years old, and the oven is a problem. It is bad holding a correct temperature, spiking up and down. But worse, the oven will turn itself on. I hear a click and open the oven, and the element is turning orange.

It is doing this on a regular basis, does anyone know if this is an easy fix? Or is it time to put this old oven down?

Question #15:

Does it make a difference if it's drop in or freestanding on ranges?

Right now my house has a white drop in electric range. We're wanting to replace it with a freestanding stainless steal that we like. They are both 30 inches and we like the cabinetry and countertops we already have. Is it going to be a big deal to switch from the drop in to a freestanding. Of course we'll have it professionally installed but we're just wondering if it's going to be a huge ordeal or if it will be a simple swap?
It may actually be a slide in range that I have. I really know nothing about them but I do know it's not freestanding but the one we want is.
This is between cabinets, against a wall. No clock on it or anything. The house is only a few years old so the cabinets and countertops are really new. So is the oven but we don't like the white.

Question #16:
