Ibanez and Fender both make some good guitars in that price range

i found that buying used on Craigslist is an excellent way to get guitar gear. i have found awesome stuff there for great prices. like my Peavey Classic 50 for $350 and my Epiphone Les Paul Custom Chrome for $350 also.

so i would suggest researching a few websites for good guitars, looking at reviews online, then checking Craigslist. ( the guitar was $800 retail, and the amp $1000. GREAT DEAL!)

i do love Les Paul's, and Epiphone makes good ones for good prices. if you like Strats i would go with fender. but Ibanez also makes some good guitars (just not my style.)
