Question: Which one is better, a gas range with electric ignition or one with a pilot?
( Back )
Answer #1:
No gas is released if the pilot goes out. Electric ignition is a little cheaper to run as it doesn't have a pilot light running all the time. Use a match if the electric ignition goes out.Answer #2:
the only problem with a electronic stove is, you can,t use the oven when the power is out,i would prefer the one with pilot lights,
i live in the boonies and when the power is out i use the oven for heat,
Answer #3:
Electronic ignition will save money. You can still cook on the top burners without the electric by lighting with a match, but not the oven.Answer #4:
The gas only comes on when you start the burner. There is no pilot light any more just a spark ignition. I don't know if they are easy to repair or not. We have had one for 25 over years and it has never failed to operate.I am not sure if you can still get a range with a pilot light anymore. I believe they are all spark ignition.
If you ignitor stops working then you can use a match or a butane candle lighter to light your burners. That is what we do when there is a power failure.
There can be a problem if you let something boil over and some of the liquid gets on the ignitor. Then it won't work until you dry it out or clean it. When you look for a range try to get one that has a small ridge or raised area around each burner so any spilled liquid won't get to the ignitor.
Answer #5:
Electronic ignition saves the cost of gas since the gas only flows when needed. Pilot lights have a steady supply of gas flowing, even if the flame goes out. You can still use a lighter or match if the power goes out or the ignitor fails.Answer #6:
yes a gas pilot does release gas when it goes out. anyone who says diffferent is clueless. normally not dangerous, but depends on time frame. if your gone for a month and the house is sealed up, you better hope no one rings the doorbell..electronic ignitors can be damaged if they get wet while hot (boilover) the insulator can crack and ignitor can fail. either light with match or replace ignitor.Answer #7:
Actually, a pilot stove is cheaper than an electronic ignition....but electronic ignition saves money and in my opinion is safer. It's hard to find a pilot stove these days unless you purchase a bottom of the line with no bells and whistles. Usually these tend to have no windows in the doors either. On an electronic ignition, when the power is out you will can light some in the oven only and some with the top burners only. The oven is very dangerous to light without the electronic ignition and should be avoided. As far as if the electronic ignition stops working it is a very easy and semi-inexpensive part to replace. www.apwagner.com is a good site to look at diagrams of your range as well as parts pricing to help repair.** Powered by Yahoo Answers
