Question #3:

PAINTING CEILINGS? HOW TO MAKE A CLEAN LINE?

I can't find a good way to make a nice, clean line. I've been told pros do the ceiling first, then the walls. I did try that, and the reverse, and still I can't do a nice, clean line.

I'm painting before selling my house, so I want it to be as perfect as possible, but I can't afford to hire a painter because I spent tons on appliances and upgrades for the kitchen and bathroom...and painting seemed so easy i didn't budget for it, now regretting it pretty hard =/

Any tips?

I'm gonna Google and see if there's any videos that may help, but thought it can't hurt to ask here too and hopefully find a way that will get the results I'm looking for.

All answers much appreciated, thanks bunches!!! =o)
Thanks tons for all the answers so far, you guys rock! =o)

I can't do all white, or all color, so the one color thing isn't an option, for resale obviously I wanna go with neutrals and a classic white ceiling.

If anyone knows more about this caulking thing, I'd like more details on that, I can't wrap my brain around how to do it, I can't picture it, thanks again! =o)
Also, the ceiling has a smooth border that's about 5 inches, so there isn't any texture for a bit, the walls are smooth also, so the area I'm concerned about isn't textured -- I just can't find a good way to make a perfect line =o(

Will try all suggestions though tomorrow on the guest bath -- was a mistake to start in the master bedroom, hindsight 20/20 haha =o)
Faux soffit sounds gorgeous! I can't do anything too dramatic, the house has a lot of decorative molding and faux finishes that were professionally done previously, so I don't want to go overboard. It's a pretty classic style as is, and I have to try and keep within that or else it may not appeal to as many buyers, but that sounds awesome! =o)

Question #4:

PAINTING A CEILING YOURSELF? HOW TO MAKE A CLEAN LINE?

I can't find a good way to make a nice, clean line. I've been told pros do the ceiling first, then the walls. I did try that, and the reverse, and still I can't do a nice, clean line.

Thanks for all answers, will try everything you guys have said! =o)

Also, I'm selling my house, so I need to keep with a pretty traditional scheme, white ceilings, neutral wall colors. We've gone somewhat dramatic with professional faux finishes that were done previously, so I decided I'd do the flat walls myself because I *thought* it would be easy...not so easy haha =o)

I wish I could do them all white and make it easy on myself, but it would look out of place against the rest of the painting that's been done, and I wouldn't dare paint over it, we paid nearly $10k for those walls =o)

Question #5:

Renovating kitchen! need feedback on appliances, benchtops, splashbacks?

Our kitchen is going to be built by Joyce Kitchens.
We've picked appliances from AEG Electrolux.
We're trying to decide whether Granite Transformation or Essa Stone is the way to go for bench-tops and Glass for the Splash-back.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these products???

Question #6:

Is is legal to rent a house that is not up to code?/electric?

I was wondering if anyone may know if it is legal to rent a home out that is not up to safety codes?

The home has very very old electric in it (original electric from 1940's ??)
I had an electrician out the other day, and was told that none of the outlets in the home are grounded. It clearly states on the gas stove that the outlet MUST be grounded. It appears that the landlord changed out all of the 2 prong outlet, and changed them to 3 prong, leaving a huge safety issue.
The electrician also stated that the kitchen circuit is WAY overloaded for the wiring in the home 1 12g wire). There is only 1 circuit for the kitchen, and he has the refrigerator, gas stove, washer/dryer and water softener all on the one circuit, in addition, there are all the kitchen outlets on the same circuit.
After leaning about this, we are very concerned for our safety, and we fear that if to many appliances are running in the kitchen, the wires may overload, and start a fire.
Is this legal....for him to have rented it out in this condition?
If anyone has any knowledge about this, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance for your help

Question #7:

if you needed a new kitchen appliance ie washing machine ?

would you go to a high street store like currys or look on the internet at an online store thank you.

Question #8:

What are all of your kitchen appliances?

and how often do you cook?

I have an oven, stove, microwave, bread machine, slow cooker, toaster, magic bullet, hand chopper, mandolin, hand mixer and a newly added food processor. I cook 1-2 times a day. I used to only have an oven, stove and microwave... it feels weird having all of these tools to do things for me, like I don't even know where to start using them! I do use the bread machine a lot though.
Oh I forgot ice cream maker too! I used it about 5 times and have left it for the past few months sitting all alone.
I mainly use my magic bullet to make pestos and salsa. I nor another friend have had any luck chopping anything. You end up with some mash and large chunks if you try to chop something like an onion. Also, when I put it in the microwave like on the commercial with a sauce, the lid cracked the first time. It's okay for small random jobs but nothing spectacular like on the commercials.

Question #9:

What color should I paint the trim and cabinets?

I have painted my kitchen walls burnished green. My appliances are bisque in color. I have light wood countertops. Right now I have dark wood stained cabinets and trim. Question #10:

have you any suggestions as to painting appliances?

you guys are always so great with ideas and suggestions so i thought i'd ask your opinions!
we are going to buy a new stove and i would love a black stove - it would look great in our kitchen. unfortunately our budget won't cover a new fridge - so my question is - are there companies that paint appliances? or do you paint it yourself? and how many shades of black are there in appliances?
i'm curious if it would be relatively easy to paint the fridge or should we just buy a white stove and be happy? any constructive ideas are most welcome! and no we do not want stainless steel - the choice is either white or black. thank you!

Question #13:

I already have a Cuisinart 7 speed Blender, can I buy just the food processor top?

I have noticed now that a lot of places are selling the Cuisinart blender with a food processor top that comes with it. So you can either change it to the blender or the food processor, only by changing the container, and you still keep the same base. Is there something like that, that I can just add on or buy, since i already have the actual blender?

For example: Click Here
This has both and I only need the additional food processor, but I have the base.
Any ideas?

Question #14:

Need some meaningful kitchen wall saying suggestions?

We have brown bagged our kitchen walls & it looks really kewl. I have one wall with no cabinets, doorways, appliances or anything on it and I thought it would look kewl to neatly paint a meaningful kitchen saying on the wall. I need some suggestions, I have one saying in mind that I like a lot but want some other ideas. The saying I have in mind now is-

Thanks God for Dirty Dishes,
They have a tale to tell.
While others are going hungry,
We're eating very well.
With home and health and happiness,
I shouldn't want to fuss.
For by this stack of evidence,
God's very good to us.

Question #17:

How to eradicate roaches? How do they travel?

I am terrified because I just moved into an apartment that was infested with roaches. I have not fully unpacked yet but many of my boxes/luggage/clothing/kitchen appliances have been unpacked. I have had an exterminator spray and now have boric acid all over the apt, I haven't seen a roach in like 10 days but yesterday I saw one in my car! I am terrified that they traveled on some item of clothing or my gym bag or something?! I hope it crawled in from outside but I am not certain.

Can I eradicate these things? Do I need to move, will they travel with me if I do so? Do I have to dry clean every item of clothing I own? I know I have a lot of questions but I've never experienced this and I am freaked out!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
